The West Side Market is full of tourists.
The Market is much busier now than it was two years ago when we moved back from New York. There’s still a lot of mystery meat parts, but there’s also a lot more prepared food than there used to be, and a boutique place that only sells cupcakes. Are cupcakes an economic indicator?
West 25th is busier too -- I note only one empty storefront. And although Nate’s Deli is nearly empty this morning it’s full of the spirit of the place, the hordes of familiar diners who don’t even need the menu.

No, cupcakes are a hipster indicator. I don't know, is that a economic indicator too?
Yeah, Nate's was empty for lunch yesterday, I couldn't figure it out.
It's possible there were more tourists than usual yesterday because of this Ohio State thing.
There's a couple of empty storefronts between Bridge and Lorain, actually -- nothing else has gone in at that Mexican place and I think Kan Zaman has given up the ghost, although that's not entirely clear. The ABC is closed at the moment but apparently is going to reopen.
There were Bucks fans wandering around downtown, slack-jawed in their jerseys, on Friday afternoon when I was out walking around. I wanted to shout at them "DO YOU KNOW THE GAME IS TOMORROW ALSO STOP CHANTING AND CHEERING OUTSIDE MY OFFICE WINDOW GO DRINK AND PLAY CORNHOLE SOMEWHERE ELSE."
And cupcakes are a hipster indicator AND an economic indicator. If you are doing well enough to spend $3.50 on a fucking cupcake, your economic situation is solid.
