This is not someone I want anywhere near the White House
From Sarah Palin's interview with Katie Couric:
Asked why she only obtained a passport last year, Palin said, "I'm not one of those who maybe came from a background of, you know, kids who perhaps graduate college and their parents give them a passport and give them a backpack and say go off and travel the world. No, I've worked all my life. In fact, I usually had two jobs all my life until I had kids. I was not a part of, I guess, that culture."

I hear you. It shocks me when I can look at her and say "even *I* know more foreign policy than you do!" Maybe if she gets into office, she can buy flat Earth maps for the schools...
You know, if she was just an average 44-year old hockey mom, I would be fine with the fact that she'd never gone abroad. Heck, half of my family (including myself) had never gone abroad until my sister got married in England five years ago.
Someone who's a heartbeat away from the presidency, however, needs to have demonstrated curiosity about the outside world, or at least explain why they haven't. She could've answered this in a much less antagonistic way, e.g.,
"I've never gone abroad because I've been busy working and having five kids. But I've got a passport now and I'm ready to see the world."
Instead she launches a culture-war missile, suggesting that anyone who's managed to leave the United States at least once before middle age has had life handed to them on a silver platter.
It's insulting, disgusting, misleading, and IMO intentionally divisive.
Sarah Palin is multidimensionally frightening.
