My Vote Didn't Matter - Literally

Our Kucinich for President votes don't appear to have been counted by the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections; they're not in the all-Ohio results on cleveland.com either. The handful of people in CuyCo who voted for Fred Thompson got counted, but not us.

I have probably never felt less significant in my life.

(But look! My brother-in-law's vote for "Candidate Withdrew" down in Chillicothe got counted.)

Well, Dennis is officially out. Edwards's campaign is suspended.

I voted for Obama and my vote didn't count because a bunch of fence-jumping knuckleheads' votes did.

This vote really shows that Ohio leads the country in shoot-yourself-in-the-leg voters. I don't think Hillary gives a damn about getting people in this state back to work. I know McCain doesn't. If Barack doesn't get the nod, I am voting for Ralph...forget Hillary.

But aren't Fred Thompson and Mitt Romney officially "out" too? And if Ross County could tally up those telltale "candidate withdrew" votes, why couldn't we?

Not that I'm a big fan of NAFTA, but I think Ohio is going to have to start helping itself a little, rather than licking old wounds and expecting the federal government to have all the answers. (Is this really coming out of my mouth?)

I doubt Obama does either, unfortunately. Nobody cares about Ohio except Ohioans, unless they think Ohio is going to get in the way of the election of their favored candidate, and then all Ohioans become idiots.

Ohio would have done much better if neither camp had brought up NAFTA, especially since it's is unlikely that either candidate really intends to do anything about it or will have the ability to do so if elected. But now we're the anti-NAFTA rubes.

I agree with you Christine...Ohio is kicking itself in the ass with its one good leg.

I think that Barack's candidacy would allow the people to do more for themselves.

Government has two purposes: (1) give us a hand up to allow us to achieve for ourselves and (2) get oppressive parties, foreign and domestic, off of our backs whether these parties be polluters, the KKK denying black folks the franchise in in the 60's or companies taking our money and not paying their fair share in taxes.

Entry 2 1/2 is helping the less fortunate. The people and the government have to tag team on that one. At one extreme, we get exclusive faith-based ideas at the other end we get hubris-laden government programs that forget their purpose...we need a balance in that department.

Derek, I think the conventional wisdom in this country is that your #2.5 is not a function of government at all, and if you can't help yourself, pull yourself up by your own bootstraps, become a self-made person (isn't that part of the American Dream?), or whatever, you're not trying hard enough and you don't deserve any help from anyone else. I believe that's in the same camp as "healthcare is a privilege, not a right." To think there's any intelligent person who really believes that healthcare (i.e., *staying alive*) is not a right -- that just blows me away.

Is that cynical or what?

I would say it was cynical if it wasn't true, Christine.
