"I want the one with the Broad"

Despite the fact that the entirety of Ohio City was coated in black ice, we made it to our nearly empty polling place this morning to find Dennis! signs dotting the lawn.

(Note: we don't live in the 10th district. Was this, then, a plot to confuse those ignorant voters into casting a presidential vote for Kucitizen Number One? Well, we did. Jim's brother in Chillicothe did too, except when he went to the polls for early voting last week, they were telling voters, "some of these candidates have since dropped out of the race, so don't vote for them." The poll workers were telling people that. God Bless America!)

Perhaps the highlight of the experience, however, was the rough-and-tumble fellow in line in front of me who, when asked whether he wanted a Democratic or Republican ballot, got agitated and said, "I dunno -- I want the one with The Broad!"

Well, I was surprised to find out that I had moved out of Dennis' district when I moved to Cleveland's West Side. Perhaps his volunteers have the wrong idea in their heads too...

That's a hilarious story about "the Broad". How Cleveland!

We were surprised and disappointed to learn we weren't in the 10th, b/c it was one of the reasons we chose OC over Cedar-Fairmount. Moral of the story is: never assume.

Oh, that guy was 100% Cleveland. *Authentic* Cleveland, if you want to go there.

Hello, I've been following the Ohio primary and find it very interesting, especially as I was born there. However, I've lived in Oregon most of my life. I like your blog. Have a good week!

Christine - I can't believe you didn't recognize me at the polls this morning. I really did want the one with the broad.

Ok, it wasn't me. Although, like b.p. beckley, I was shocked to learn I wasn't in Dennis's district. I could've sworn I was. And I teach political science!

I think that the same lushes that drew our congressional districts are the same ones that went out there and asked for the ballot with the broad on it.

...and you know why they asked for the ballot with the broad? So they wouldn't have to vote for the (enter racial slur for african-americans here...you know the one). It really does expose the ugliness that is Cleveland and the ignorance and stupidity that Ohio is starting to get a rep for.

Scott, consider yourself lucky to be in that other "O" state. I have high regard for Portland and I am looking forward to visiting Corvallis one day ( there's a really cool open source software center there -- http://www.osuosl.org ).

Plus, they have (former WCPN 90.3@9 host )April Baer...who is the world's best interviewer. I wish she would have moderated the Clinton - Obama debate.

A truly classic anecdote, and one with a larger meaning. Thanks for sharing it.

ditto derek completely. And hi Christine, I was not surprised but felt my blood pressure going up again when I read your election day experiences. I know someone who was shown a racially derrogatory cartoon at the polls by a voter who was half in the bag; and the half in the bag thing is not a valid excuse for racism! Oy!
