Walkability

During a bout of insomnia last night, my husband plugged in every neighborhood we've ever lived in into WalkScore.com. Ohio City scored the very best, at a 92/100.

How does your neighborhood compare?

My Lakewood neighborhood was 86 out of 100, but I find a slight problem ... the only "park" it noted is about a half mile from our house ... but yet, it doesn't take into effect the rather gigantic Rocky River Metropark right around the corner from my house. I would think that would add a tad bit to the walkability?

I wonder how they come up with these scores, too. My first Honolulu neighborhood was one where most people didn't have cars. There are two full-size grocery stores plus the big health food store within six blocks. It's a block from a major transit route, three blocks from the library, three blocks the other direction to the rec center, and take your choice: in twenty minutes, you can walk to Waikiki, any of several nice beaches, the major mall on the island, the university, or either of two movie theaters (sadly, the one three blocks away closed soon after I moved there). I won't even start on the range of restaurants within a couple of blocks. Yet, it scores only an 80. I wonder where you have to live to get 100?
