i wonder if you can really see old rollercoaster tracks where puritas spring park was. i would love to see that. your list is so much fun. i just made my own, too: http://www.43things.com/person/littlecloudysky
Jackie- that's a great list! It makes me wish I had 86 things....
Let's try and get as many people as we can to play this little game, shall we? One thing I learned from being a serial relocator is that it's important to get to know your surroundings, even when you think you know them inside and out.
Had to come on and thank you for introducing me to Monastery...I've been there twice in last two weeks and love the tea! I'll take the challenge too, just not at this ungodly hr of the morning! Love your list!
I actually think that by the end of the year, I may have tried all of them. It's cool because they always bring you that little sample before you order.
I think it's important to confine the list to things you can do in one year. Stuff has been languishing on my other 43 Things profile for years - (like my favorite, "cross things off the list of things I've meant to do forever." I think it's been there since 2006.)
I really want to get people to make their own lists! Pass it on!
Interesting list, Christine. You've convinced me to do my own soon. Thanks for sharing it. I'm going to hold you to that one about attending a PWLGC event, but purely as an FYI, please note that it's just changed its name to The Lit.
I tend to be slow about names (unless I really like the name; see Cleveland Bachelor's take on Progressive Field. I still say Gund Arena and probably will do so forever.
I was wondering if that's what it was. The easiest way to see the Detroit-Superior subway is to go on the couple of days a year that the county opens it up for walking -- normally Labor Day and Memorial Day, maybe others. Although for all I know, if you know someone at the county engineer's office, they can take you out there at any time. The entrances they open for that are on the north (St. Malachi) side of the bridge.
The entrance they use for the tours was one way of reaching the station, the other being from the southwest corner of West 25th and Detroit. The building there has a stairway leading down to the station (but it was closed last I saw). This is the only "subway" I know of that Cleveland ever had.
christine - i am totally fond of it! i even named my blog after it! : ) it is pretty retro now, a lot of people my age don't even know what it's about. i'm trying to change that : )
It took me awhile, but I did the homework. The only thing is, the list is on my blog and not on 43 Things site, I just can't bear to join another site at the moment! I do promise to go to the site and see how many people are ther and to read your list again, Christine.

FYI, there is an event next Saturday (Feb 23rd) at Grey's Armory - the Guns N' Hoses party. $15 cover charge to support local police and firefighters. Food, music, and cash bar. I think there's a MySpace page with more details...give it a Google and cross off...#37 was it?
I started writing RBCA as a way to record my thoughts about Cleveland and Northeast Ohio during a 3-year odyssey on the East Coast -- an exile from which I am about to return have just returned.

OK John - please do hold me to it.

Great list, Christine! I, too, have a list that's been languishing for years. Time to update it and focus on specific, short-term goals.
Hm, abandoned subway station in the flats? Do you have any other information?
Take a look at this courtesy of Great Lakes Urban Exploration
It's actually under the Detroit Superior Bridge, so perhaps I can kill two birds with one stone...

Damn, lots of good things on that list, many of which may just make their way onto mine (especially now that I've looked at The Monastery's tea menu).
Am I allowed to have my first thing be "Make a list of things to do on 43things.com"? :-)
just found your blog and i love it!
i think this is a GREAT idea. i'm going to encourage everyone in my group to make their own.
Hi Alexa,
Are you one of those people who recall the "Cleveland's a Plum" campaign with fondness rather than derision? (Me too.)

I so agree with you about the Gund and Jacobs Field.
