Sealed With a Donut
Jim and I have made our decision to move back to Cleveland. We are now both actively looking for employment.
It all started with a donut run.
A few weeks ago, one of my coworkers announced that he was heading down to Manhattan's Lower East Side for lunch, and would any of us like something from the much-hyped Doughnut Plant, which you may recall from Throwdown with Bobby Flay.
Recalling the year I spent in Montana searching for donuts -any donuts- I said yes, I would like one.
Now, these were supposed to be the best donuts in the world. If Krispy Kreme = Parma, then these were supposed to be Shaker Heights.
Except, they weren't. I bit into the Tres Leches - their signature pastry - and realized that the whole New York Mystique has been a lie. Better donuts there are in plenty down Holmes County way, and for much less than $2 a pop.
So, if you are a Cleveland employer in need of someone with good research and communication skills, please let me know.
update: I feel the need to point out that it's three years to the day since I started working at the Ocean County Library. End update.

You're looking for any gig that requires research and communication skills, or are there particularities that you're aiming for?
Hi Adam - I'd prefer working in an office, downtown (I'm going to attempt commuting-by-RTA, which is something you do -or did- I seem to recall). A somewhat flexible schedule would be great (right now, I work Monday - Thursday), but I'm willing to compromise on that. I work best independently, although my job right now is so solitary that I increasingly miss working together with people on projects. I like to stay busy; I hate jobs where you're constantly bored. My formal training is in libraries (I have an MLIS), but I've worked for a publishing company for the last two years.
This is nearly ditto for the boyfriend... but he's more flexible about where he works (although, I think he entertains some fantasies about being able to ride his bike to work.)
Thanks for getting me to clarify!
I might have a lead for you. I can't seem to find an email though. If you send me one to aharvey at my domain name, I'll pass along some info.
If you ever happen to make it out to Ocean City, NJ, try a donut at Brown's on the boardwalk.
Just a frycake with icing. Nothing fancy, but the best frycake with icing I've ever had.
congratulations on your decision to move back to cleveland. i'm moving back too, from nyc, in a month! i enjoyed your neighborhood comparisons and am still trying to decide where i want to live myself. it will probably be lakewood, ohio city or tremont. i don't know these parts of town so well since i grew up on the east side. i found one great-looking apt. on clifton and chase. do you know if clifton is mostly residential (i.e. less walkable than detroit ave)?
hi jackie- i saw that one too; don't bother if you have a cat with claws, though - i inquired about it, they'll only take declawed cats. but seriously - you can't get apartments like that in queens, can you? clifton is a lovely street to walk on; problem is, at that part of clifton at least, there's not much to walk *to*. lakewood park, i guess, and i guess you could walk down to detroit too, but i'm not sure what's down there at that point. lakewood hospital, maybe....
ahhhhh what is it with these people who think it's ok to declaw cats? it's getting frustrating trying to find places that we really like that also allow cats. thank you for the info though. i'm consoled by the fact that that specific area might not be the best for us anyway, since we really want to be able to walk places easily. by the way, when are you moving? we're out of here sept. 1! -good luck with your search.
