New Favorite Restaurant

When in New York, you've got to go to Bamiyan Afghani Restaurant. Seriously. If you're planning a trip here, drop me a line and I'll go with you.

From the kadu (pumpkin turnovers with yogurt dip), to the Kabuli Palow with Lamb, to the traditional Afghan tea (brewed with rose petals and cardamom) - you can't go wrong.

And even in the off-chance that you do go wrong, the ambiance is totally worth it.

I am 99% positive that I ate there a couple or three years ago. And it was good.

Thanks for the suggestion. My in-laws live in Jersey and I'll have to make them take us when we visit next. Now I'm hungry.

well, if either of you come here anytime soon, drop me a line!

i feel about bamiyan like i did about my poor, departed clay oven in cleveland... i.e., that i've got to go there as often as possible, to prevent its demise - especially after i did a technorati search for it and came up with this (from library journal, oddly enough):

In the meantime, the genrification that killed my beloved video store continues unabated, with huge expensive condominiums replacing neighorhood shops and restaurants. Gone is my favorite family-owned Italian restaurant, Casa Mia. Gone is my little old-fashioned stationary store where I bought my pens and writing supplies. I just hope Bamiyan, the best Afghan restaurant in New York and run by identical twin brothers from Kabul, can hang in there before skyrocketing rents drive it out of business. [emphasis mine]
