Do Not Pass Go

If you are thinking of ditching Cleveland for New York City, please read How to Move to New York City Sane and Not Broke and think long and hard about the first question. The answer is no. Go have yourself an expertly-roasted Phoenix coffee and go to the Cinemathèque to celebrate your wise decision.

I had this internal fight with myself when I quit my job in Detroit a little more than a year ago and came back to Ohio. I never could convince myself to make the actual move.

For better or worse, I feel loyal to the Great Lakes region.

Thanks for posting that link; I may add it to my blog too. My best friend grew up on Long Island (close enough to enjoy NYC but with a suburban flair) and really misses it. He enjoys Cleveland too, and he mainly moved here because there was a job available, but he still pines for Back Home.

We visited NYC last year. It was my first time going there as an adult. It was a lot of fun, especially since I had him as a tour guide, but I know for certain I just couldn't make it there. I'm not a big city kinda guy. I can certainly understand the allure for someone like him who grew up there, but I think the same logic applies to me with Cleveland.

And I just might have to try a Phoenix Coffee next time I'm in Lakewood. :)

Sometimes I feel like paying the $18 to get to the observation deck at the empire state building, whipping out a megaphone, and yelling "GO HOME!!!! WHEREVER YOU COME FROM NEEDS YOU MORE THAN NYC DOES!!!!"

Actually, I wonder how many people move here and stay for good. Even for a librarian, it can be hard to find statistics like that - they're hard to collect. I don't intend to be here much longer, especially if these wimpy, suck-ass winters keep up. (On Saturday, I went outside and it was hot and humid!!)
