What Do Urban Planners Do?

This sounds like a job I'd like.

I have wanted to be a planner...especially when it comes to transportation planning. I actually got to intern at RTA for 8 months. It was frustrating (because of the recurring problems and general dismissive attitude by the public in regards to mass transit) and fun (transit really is cool when done right).

It sounds like a dream job. For me a dream job would be as a department at either Pepperdine University or Abilene Christian University.

To reiterate a concern from a previous post, what says you cannot avoid going back to school and just leverage your MLIS? Would you necessarily need an additional degree to do what you want to do? Dr. William Buchanan at Clarion University of Pennsylvania was trying to do something natural resources-related in terms of information lately that I have not kept up with as well as I should. Perhaps he might be a good resource to contact as he might be able to suggest to you avenues by which you could proceed with what you are thinking of?
