See, I Told You
Epodunk.com has a map showing the most underfunded libraries in the country.
Notice there are no little red dots in Ohio. Libraries are probably the only thing Ohio has going for it right now. Email this map to your legislators. Email this map tothat big grinning idiot Bob Taft.

I am not quite so sure about this adequacy of funding. One local library opened a search specifically to find an MLS to put in charge. They found many. None of them would accept the pittance offered in pay. Even though I am an MSLS sitting on my hands (I did substitute teach today, at least), the library employs as non-MLS as a director and has no MLS holders working for it whatsoever. The reason? "Not enough money to pay for an MLS" according to folks at other area libraries. The incumbent director (serving ad interim) claims she will eventually get her MLS (from KSU undoubtedly) but apparently has to fund such herself...
I keep wondering how that library right here in Ohio is sufficiently funded if it cannot even employ one single MLS. The article in this morning's edition of The Star Beacon (their web site seems to have exploded, so no link right now) extolled the joys of having a non-MLS run a library and slammed MLS holders. The library supposedly is sufficiently funded yet cannot afford an MLS. Is somebody skimming money off the top?
Shalom Christine,
I pointed out to my webgoddess who lives in Spokane, Washington, that only two states on the map seem to be red-dot-free: Ohio and Washington.
Her reply was that libraries, at least in the eastern part of the state where she is, are in horrible shape with people haveing to pay for Inter-Library Loans and the main library being open only three days a week.
Any idea what's going on in Washington with the red-dots?
B'shalom,
Jeff
